The arrival of a new Ferrari anniversary supercar is always something to behold: You’re guaranteed a scarlet automotive marvel that’ll knock your socks off if you ever got behind the wheel, featuring dramatic styling to go with its huge power output, and a reaction that spans the spectrum of usage for the words “Mamma Mia!”
In this month’s cover story, Tyler Rampersaud dissects the technology-packed new F80. The numbers and specifications for this car are incredible, yet it’s endured a mixed reception by critics. It reminds me of what happened when the now iconic F40 was launched: The final road car personally approved by Enzo Ferrari, it’s become a renowned work of automotive art. But, back in the day, seasoned observers labeled it a cynical attempt to cash in on speculators’ money after seeing how much was paid for used 288 GTOs and declared it inferior to the Porsche 959.

The F40 featured a turbocharged V8 – and it’s another howl of disapproval that the F80 uses a V6 hybrid turbo engine, which produces a stunning 1,200 horsepower, but not the wonderful noise of a V12 of its predecessor, the LaFerrari. To me, just like the F40 was in 1987, the F80 feels a victim of its times. These criticisms will fade away.
Another to carry the burden of an automotive legend is Bugatti’s Director of Design Frank Heyl. In our interview, he outlines to Gabriel Vega Cortés his ethos about what it takes to produce a timeless classic. In the DRIVE section, to complete our supercar set, we get behind the wheel of Pagani’s latest V12- powered offering, the Utopia.
You’ll find our annual Aviation Guide in our LIVE section, which will help those looking to travel in luxury find the right solutions for their situation. Whether it be via charter, ownership, or even membership, we have something for everyone.
And in SELL, you’ll simply have to check out Rogue Van Company, located in San Diego, CA, as its RC-1 rejects the familiar and embraces the conceptual.
Happy reading, and drive safely!
