Ferrari 296 GTB: A New Era For Ferrari

2023-ferrari-296-gtb-assetto-fio (2)

Just this month, we have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the new Ferrari 296 GTB. To be more specific, we drove an example equipped with the Assetto Fiorano package. Here are a few excerpts from our review of the new hybrid supercar:

  • What sets the 296 GTB apart is how well it can deploy its outrageous performance on a twisty road. However, it's not just fast. It's also engaging, allowing for a level of immersion behind the wheel that few competitors can match.
  • Coupled with an extended front splitter included in the Assetto Fiorano package and with high downforce mode engaged, this elegant two-door can still produce 794 pounds of downforce at 155 mph. This is comparable to the high-winged Lamborghini Huracan STO at similar speeds, which is essentially a street-legal race car.
  • By itself, this new powerplant develops 654 hp, but of course, it's not alone, as it couples with an axial flux electric motor nestled between it and the eight-speed dual-clutch out of the SF90, pushing out an extra 165 hp. The pair deliver 818 hp and 546 pound-feet of torque, allowing the GTB to hit 62 mph in 2.9 seconds and top out at 205 mph.
  • The 296 GTB feels like the culmination of many innovations coming together to deliver a powerful, electrified, engaging, and properly exciting car. Although this Ferrari has truly impressive stats that grab headlines, what it does best is immerse its diver in the experience behind the wheel.

Ferrari has unveiled its latest supercar, the 296 GTB, but it's not a true successor to the F8 Tributo as its creating its own segment. This mid-engined V6 hybrid is a major departure from Ferrari's traditional V8 and V12 engines, and it could be one of the most successful models in the company's history.

There are several reasons why the 296 GTB could be a big hit with buyers. First, it's incredibly powerful. The twin-turbocharged V6 engine produces 663 horsepower, and the electric motor adds an additional 167 horsepower. That gives the 296 GTB a total system output of 830 horsepower, which is more than any other Ferrari V8 or V12.

Second, the 296 GTB is very efficient. The hybrid powertrain allows it to travel up to 15 miles on electric power alone, and the combined fuel economy is an impressive 26 mpg. This makes the 296 GTB one of the most fuel-efficient supercars on the market.

Third, the 296 GTB is very stylish. It has a sleek, aerodynamic design that is both elegant and aggressive. The interior is also luxurious and well-appointed, with high-quality materials and finishes.

Finally, the 296 GTB is very affordable. The starting price is $299,995, which is significantly less than other Ferrari supercars. This makes it more accessible to a wider range of buyers.

All of these factors suggest that the Ferrari 296 GTB could be a big hit with buyers. It's powerful, efficient, stylish, and affordable. This could make it one of Ferrari's greatest-selling models.

As of now, the Ferrari 488 GTB is the best-selling Ferrari of the past 10 years, with over 8,900 units produced. It was introduced in 2015 as a successor to the 458 Italia and features a mid-mounted turbocharged V8 engine that produces 661 horsepower.

For Ferrari as a company, moving metal isn't a problem no matter the model. In fact, Ferrari had a record year in 2022, delivering 13,221 cars worldwide. That number represents an increase of 18.5% over the previous year and marked the highest annual sales figure in the company's history. In fact, it was the 296 GTB that helped aid in that historic sales figure, alongside the 812 Competizione.

Ferrari notes that within those figures is a product portfolio that is comprised of nine internal combustion engine (ICE) models and three hybrid engine models, including the 296 GTB. As far as the break of sales, the ICE models accounted for 78% of the total shipments while the three hybrid models made up 22%. Joining the 296 GTB in the hybrid lineup were the SF90 Spider and SF90 Stradale.

While the 296 GTB hasn't hit the pre-owned market as of yet, there are countless other models currently for sale on duPontREGISTRY.com. If you'd like to list your Ferraris for sale and reach our qualified, high-end customers be sure to click the button above.
